Seva in Action: The Heart and Soul of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib

Wow, this one really touched my soul. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, colloquially known as the Golden Temple, is a Sikh temple.

Sikhism, a faith that began in the late 15th century in the region of Punjab by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, is rooted deeply in the principle of “seva” or selfless service. This philosophy is a core tenet of Sikhism, emphasizing equality among all and the importance of acting selflessly. Sikhism teaches the devotion to God, honest living, and equality of mankind with a strong ethos on serving others, which beautifully manifests in the langar - a free community kitchen.

Here, no matter class or creed, they feed anywhere from 50,000-150,000 people a day. Completely donation-based and volunteer-operated. People come and work as long as they want, doing whatever they feel serves them, and they’re having FUN.
